Bookmobile Babe | Portland, Oregon

How we got started

Everyone Should Have Access To Books.

Christie Quinn

Our President, Christie Quinn, has been a lifelong advocate for literacy. She's worked with books her whole life - whether it's teaching high school English classes or working at a book store, she's always loved reading and has especially loved sharing her passion with young folks. When she began volunteering with Multnomah County Libraries, she realized they did not have a bookmobile or a way to bring books to communities that can't make it to the library. So, she took matters into her own hands, and thus the Bookmobile Babe began!

Portland (like any urban city) includes families and individuals from the full economic spectrum. The Bookmobile Babe’s main mission is to distribute books to families, children and teens who don’t have regular access to the newest bestseller at the bookstore.

We host book exchanges to redistribute old favorites that have been read or outgrown to shelves where those titles are new and exciting! Thanks to funding from grants from Portland Parks Foundation and RE/MAX Equity we’ve been able to bring new books to distribute at our Summer Reading Camp in Lents Park and other events!
